Jharia-The Hell In Earth .
Hell in earth is allegory, but it comes true for Jharia,Jharkhand,India. The mining activities in Jharia started in 1894 and had really intensified in 1925. In the year 1916 the first coalmine fire was seen in Jharia. Now the town is facing ecological disaster and gradually turning into inferno due to mine fire and poisonous fumes containing Methane,Carbon mono-oxide,Carbon di-oxide and Sulpher. Villages of India’s Eastern state of Jharkhand like Bokapahari,Kujama,Laltanganj,Gannudih, Kalibazar,Lodhna , very near around Jharia look like bombed out wasteland. Most fires are set by illegal mining which leads to build up poisonous gases . As a result 60% villagers are suffering from various respiratory diseases. Due to landslides there are lots of casualties every year. Government has taken rehabilitation programs to relocate the worst affected villagers  at Belgaria(20Kms from Jharia) .30% rehabilitation program has done.Poor villagers refused to go their and  staying at their villages for food only. They are very poor that they can't send their children to school and take them in work in the opencast coal mine. But Now it’s just a matter of time the  advancing fire and poisonous fumes will  destroy  houses  as well as lives in rural as well as urban areas of Jharia..Copyright@Amit Maitra
